Engine (Power)
Most models come equipped with a 3.6-liter 24-valve V-6 engine that produces 295 horsepower, can get up to 26 mpg on the highway, and can tow up to 6,200 pounds. Its fuel-saving technology turns off the engine when you come to a stop; it restarts when the brakes are released. The SRT comes with a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 that produces 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque and can get the vehicle to a top speed of 160 mph, including zero to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds. The Trailhawk boasts a supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi V-8 that gets 707 horsepower and 645 pound-feet of torque. It can go from zero to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 180 mph. The engines on the SRT and Trailhawk can each tow up to 7,200 pounds.
Performance
An eight-speed automatic transmission and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes are standard on all models through the Summit. Most models come with rear-wheel drive as standard. The Laredo, Laredo E, Altitude, Limited, Sterling Edition, Overland, High Altitude, and Summit are also available with all-wheel drive. The Upland, Trailhawk, SRT, and Trackhawk are available only with all-wheel drive.
Interior
The Grand Cherokee has 36.3 square feet of cargo space, which expands to 68.3 square feet when the rear seats are folded down. The front passenger seat folds flat on some models, allowing room for longer cargo. The UConnect 4 infotainment system, with a standard 7-inch touch screen, is compatible with Apple CarPlay or Google Android Auto. Interior door handles and cup holders are illuminated at night. There are six speakers for the entertainment system, and a 7-inch LCD dashboard display of important gauges (speed, fuel levels, rpm, etc.).
Safety Features
Grand Cherokee employs front and rear crumple zones to absorb energy in a crash away from the passengers. The vehicle has seven air bags, including multistage driver and front passenger air bags, side-curtain air bags, front seat-mounted side air bags, and a knee bolster air bag for the driver. Blind spot monitoring (standard on some higher-end models) will warn you of a vehicle in the lane when you signal a lane change. The ParkView rear back-up camera will aid you in seeing obstacles when moving in reverse. If you are in a collision, the vehicle's accident response system will unlock the doors, cut off engine fuel, turn on the interior lights, and turn on the flashing hazard lights.
