2019 Dodge Durango
The powerful Dodge Durango is a versatile SUV that will fit family and friends and offers a powerful suite of engine options. The 2019 model has just a few changes, including new exterior styling elements for the GT, the option for an upgraded 19-speaker Harman Kardon stereo system, and if you get the Trailer Tow package, it now comes with an integrated trailer brake.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The five Durango trim levels start with the SXT. This has 18-inch alloy wheels, foglights, a rear suspension with a load-leveling feature, and heated side mirrors. The GT model has 20-inch wheels, and it adds a power liftgate, while the Citadel adds power-folding door mirrors, automatic windshield wipers, roof rail crossbars, a sunroof, and xenon headlights. Bumping up to the R/T will get you upgraded brakes, LED foglights and a performance hood, and this model lowers the ride height.
The SRT is at the top of the lineup with upgraded Brembo brakes, an adaptive suspension, auto-leveling headlights, and the option for a sunroof. Dodge also offers the Brass Monkey package for the GT and R/T, which adds black headlight bezels, 20-inch painted bronze wheels and a gloss-black grille.
Engine (Power)
The Durango's base engine is a 3.6-liter V-6 that delivers 295 horsepower and 260 pound-feet of torque. The R/T bumps up the power with a 5.7-liter V-8 engine that creates 360 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque, and this is available as an option for the Citadel. The SRT gets its own 6.4-liter V-8 with 475 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
No matter which engine you get in the Durango, it will easily power you down the road. Both of the V-8s have better acceleration than the V-6, and all of the powertrains come with a smooth, eight-speed automatic transmission. When equipped, the Durango will tow up to 8,700 pounds, which is more than any other SUV in this class, and the 8.1-inch ground clearance in most models allows this SUV to tackle rough terrain. Dodge also offers the option for a dual-range transfer case.
Interior
The Durango offers seats for up to five passengers, which can increase to seven if you add the third-row seat. You can also exchange the second-row bench seat for a set of captain's chairs and have seating for up to six. Cloth seats come standard in the lower trims with leather offers in the higher-end models.
For technology, there is a 7-inch touchscreen display that works with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, or you can upgrade to the 8.4-inch touchscreen that adds Uconnect, navigation, and an HD radio. Dodge also offers a dual-screen rear seat entertainment system in the GT and R/T along with a 12-volt power outlet.
Safety Features
All of the Durango trims come standard with a rearview camera, and you can add a blind-spot monitoring system and rear cross-traffic alert to any model. The Technology Group package for the GT or R/T comes with the blind-spot monitor and adds adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, and a lane-departure warning system with lane-keep assist.
