What SUV should I buy?
Dodge and Ford are two names that you'll regularly find listed among the top vehicles for power and performance. With new models upon us, we've created a direct comparison of the features and performance of the 2020 Dodge Durango and the 2020 Ford Explorer. In the end, we feel the 2020 Dodge Durango is a superior vehicle for performance, luxury, and technology. It looks great and kicks out all the power and convenience you need.
Performance
The Dodge Durango has several engines in its lineup, including a standard V-6, an optional V-8, and a top-of-the-line HEMI that gives you up to 475 horses and 470 pound-feet of torque, along with the ability to tow up to 7,400 pounds. The Explorer, on the other hand, can only generate a maximum 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet in its range-topping engine, and its towing doesn't come close.
Technology Features
Both vehicles include high-end technology interfaces, with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well as Wi-Fi capabilities and a range of active intelligent safety features like blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping, and parking assist. What Ford does not offer, however, is automatic emergency braking, which the newest Durango does.
Luxury
The Durango offers a level of luxury that Ford can't match, from 20-inch alloy wheels to premium Nappa leather upholstery, and more passenger space with a seating capacity of seven as opposed to Ford's seating for six. The Explorer does offer leather upholstery up front, but it's not the high-end Nappa leather. The Ford also doesn't have the option for the beefy alloy wheels, offering only 18-inch aluminum.
