2020 Jeep Cherokee
As the largest of Jeep's crossovers, the Cherokee offers stellar off-roading capabilities thanks to its impressive towing capacity and engine options. The vehicle underwent a major renovation in 2019, so changes made to the 2020 model year are minimal. Part of the second generation introduced in 2014, the 2020 Cherokee is a strong option if you're in the market for highway driving, tackling trails, or daily commuting.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
There are five trims available with the 2020 Jeep Cherokee: Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited, Trailhawk, and Overland. The base Latitude trim comes with 17-inch wheels, the Limited trim has 18-inch wheels, and the Overland has 19-inch wheels.
Engine (Power)
The standard engine found on the 2020 Cherokee is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 180 horsepower and 171 pound-feet of torque. The Trailhawk trim comes standard with a 3.2-liter V-6 engine that makes 271 horsepower and 239 pound-feet of torque. The other engine option is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. All engines come standard with a nine-speed automatic transmission. All trims come with either front- or all-wheel drive except the Trailhawk, which only has all-wheel drive.
Performance
The inline-four engine can only tow 2,000 pounds, but with the four-cylinder option, the Cherokee can tow a maximum of 4,000 pounds. When fully equipped, the Trailhawk trim has a 4,500-pound maximum capacity.
For fuel economy, the base engine with front-wheel drive gets 22 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive, the numbers drop to 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The V-6 engine gives you 20 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. The turbo-four offers the best fuel economy with 23 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The Trailhawk's engine gets 18 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway.
Interior
The 2020 Cherokee comes standard with two USB ports, a six-speaker audio system, a 7-inch touch-screen display, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. Standard features on the Latitude Plus trim include a power-adjustable driver's seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel, satellite radio, and an extra USB port.
The Limited trim includes many of the Latitude's options as well as leather upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, a nine-speaker audio system, and an 8.4-inch touch-screen display. The off-roading Trailhawk has features similar to the Limited trim, while the top-of-the-line Overland includes driver-seat memory functions, upgraded leather upholstery, heated rear seats, navigation, and HD radio.
For cargo space, the Cherokee has 29.1 cubic feet of space when you have the rear seats pushed as far forward as possible. Folding down the seats gives you 54.9 cubic feet of space. There are also cubbies found throughout the vehicle, so you can store smaller items.
Safety Features
The 2020 Cherokee comes standard with a rearview camera. With the three upper-level trims you can opt for the Technology Group package, which includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, automatic high-beam headlights, and forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking.
