Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2020 Compass is available in four trims: Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. The base Sport trim features 16-inch wheels, while the Latitude and Trailhawk trims have 17-inch wheels. The Limited trim has the largest wheel offerings with 18-inch ones. The Trailhawk is the sportiest of the four trims and includes all-season tires, off-road suspension system, and additional skid plates.
Engine (Power)
Every 2020 Compass trim comes with a 180-horsepower four-cylinder 2.4-liter engine that produces 175 pound-feet of torque. Depending on the trim, it's paired with a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic, or nine-speed automatic transmission. The automatic transmissions come with front-wheel drive, which is available on every trim and comes standard on the Trailhawk.
Performance
For fuel economy, the four-wheel-drive Compass gets an EPA-estimated 22 miles per gallon (mpg) in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. This number is the same for the six-speed automatic transmission vehicles. The nine-speed automatic transmission Compass gets 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. A properly equipped Compass can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

When it comes to safety features, the 2020 Compass comes standard with only a rearview camera, but there are numerous upgrades available in the Advanced Safety as well as the Safety and Security packages. The Advanced Safety package includes automatic high beams, forward-collision warning, and adaptive cruise control. The Safety and Security package features rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, and rain-sensing windshield wipers.
