Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 RAM 1500 Classic is a capable full-size pickup that features the design elements from an older 1500 version of the truck. It also boasts a steel frame, which makes it slightly heavier than some of the other RAM truck models. You can choose from three trim levels: Tradesman, Express, and Warlock. It's further customizable with three body styles, which are crew cab, quad cab, and regular cab, and three-bed lengths, which are short, standard, and long.
The short bed measures five feet seven inches in length, while the standard is six feet four inches long. The long bed is eight feet in length. The cab you choose will impact which bed length is available. Exterior features on the Tradesman trim include automatic halogen headlights, manually adjustable side mirrors, black bumpers, and a manual tailgate. The Express trim adds fog lights and body-color bumpers, while the Warlock trim comes with heated mirrors, LED lighting, and blacked-out trim.
Engine (Power)
All three trim levels of the RAM 1500 Classic share the same 3.6-liter V-6 engine that produces 305 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. It works with an eight-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The powertrain also features RAM's mild eTorque hybrid system, which helps conserve fuel. The EPA fuel economy estimates come in at 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway, or 20 mpg combined. If you want more power, a 5.7-liter V-8 engine is available as an option. This unit makes 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque.
Performance
Rear-wheel drive is standard, but you can opt for an available four-wheel drive on any of the three trim levels. If you plan to take your truck off the beaten path, the four-wheel-drive system is a worthwhile upgrade. For those who want to tow and haul heavy loads, the RAM 1500 Classic won't disappoint. When properly equipped, this truck can tow up to 10,620 pounds and carry up to 1,810 pounds of payload.
Interior
The cabin of the base model comes with manual climate control, front storage cubbies, vinyl upholstery and floor covering, and manually adjustable front seats. It also features a six-speaker sound system with satellite radio, Bluetooth connectivity, and voice controls. The top trim adds cloth upholstery and carpeted flooring, along with a few interior enhancements. RAM offers an entertainment package that bundles navigation, a 4G Wi-Fi hot spot, HD radio, and an 8.4-inch touch screen.
Safety Features
Every 2022 RAM 1500 Classic comes with airbags throughout the cabin, anti-lock brakes with brake assist, stability and traction control, and an engine immobilization system to prevent theft. The Warlock trim adds rear parking sensors, which can help alert you of obstacles that may be behind the truck before backing up.
