Trim Levels (Exterior)
Three trim levels are available for the Wrangler 4xe, and you'll need to consider their exterior features to find the right fit for your needs. The standard trim, the Sahara, comes with several impressive exterior features, such as skid plates and blue tow hooks. Heated side mirrors and LED fog lights are also standard.
If you're looking for an upgrade, the Rubicon boasts impressive exterior features like a body-colored or accented grille, air vents on the hood, and 17-inch machined wheels with black pockets. It also comes equipped with BSW off-road tires. The top trim level is the High Altitude, and it adds a bit of luxury to the Wrangler with heated side mirrors that have integrated turn signal indicators. The rear bumper also has step pads standard at this level.
Engine (Power)
Only one engine is available for the Wrangler 4xe regardless of which trim level you choose, but it's all the engine you'll ever need for this efficient off-roader. It's a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that's paired with dual electric motors to produce 375 horsepower with 470 pound-feet of torque. This comes paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a standard four-wheel-drive system.
Performance
As you might expect, this Wrangler excels at off-roading, but that's not what really makes it special. Being a hybrid, it can operate without using any gas for about 22 miles. It takes about 12 hours to charge on a standard 120-volt electric supply, but you can reduce that time to 2-1/2 hours with a 240-volt system. Additionally, the electric battery is sealed to allow for water fording in depths of up to 30 inches without putting the hybrid system at risk.
Interior
The interior of the Wrangler 4xe is much like its gas-only counterpart, featuring off-road oriented details like drain plugs in the floor that let you hose down the floor if necessary. Plus, rear passengers will find plenty of room inside, as the rear legroom is an impressive 38.2 inches. If you're more interested in the cargo area, you'll find a maximum capacity of 67.4 cubic feet, but even with the rear seats up, you can still enjoy 27.7 cubic feet of space.
Safety Features
Several safety features are available for the Wrangler 4xe if you want to outfit your off-roader with additional functions to make it safer. Available systems include front and rear parking sensors as well as adaptive cruise control. Blind-spot monitoring is also available, as is automatic emergency braking. Of course, the Wrangler 4xe itself is constructed from high-strength steel designed to direct the kinetic energy of impacts around the cabin rather than straight through.
