Hybrid or Not? Choosing a 2018 Chrysler Pacifica

You are spoiled for choice when it comes to the 2018 Chrysler Pacifica. It is available in six trims: L, LX, Touring Plus, Touring L, Touring L Plus, and Limited. There is also a hybrid model that is available in three trims: Touring Plus, Touring L, and Limited. In order to help you make a decision, let's compare the 2018 Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid by focusing on the Limited trim in both models. Deciding between the two will not be easy, as both have a lot to offer and are top contenders in the new-age minivan class. The Three P's: Price, Power, and Performance The 2018 Chrysler Pacifica Limited trim comes at a starting price of $44,095. It sports a 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine that kicks out 287 horsepower and is paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission. The fuel efficiency of this car is rated at 19 mpg city and 28 mpg highway, and it has a towing capacity of 3,600 pounds. more The Hybrid Pacifica, starting at a slightly higher price of $44,995, features a 3.6-liter V-6 eHybrid engine paired with an eFlite Si-EVT transmission. This car has a 33-mile electric driving range, which means you can run most errands without gas. The fuel economy is really good, as you might expect from a hybrid, and is rated at 32 mpg city and 33 highway. Towing, however, is not recommended with this car. Exterior & Technology As far as the exterior goes, both models sport automatic headlamps, front and rear LED lamps, front LED fog lamps, and LED taillamps. Whereas the Pacifica features HID headlights, the Pacifica Hybrid boasts halogen quad headlamps as well as chrome-accent fog lamp bezels and premium fog lamps. Both models feature a hands-free power liftgate and power sliding doors, but only the Hybrid model comes standard with a chrome Stow 'n Place roof rack. The Pacifica, however, sports a tri-pane panoramic sunroof. It also features 18-inch aluminum wheels, whereas the Hybrid model comes standard with 17-inch aluminum wheels. Interior Whether you choose the the Pacifica or the Pacifica Hybrid, you are assured comfort and plenty of space. Both can seat up to seven people comfortably, and for additional optional storage space, they both feature a third-row fold-in-floor 60/40 bench. Both models also sport premium Nappa leather-trimmed bucket seats, heated front seats, power four-way driver lumbar adjustment, and a power eight-way driver seat. The Pacifica also features second-row Stow 'n Go seats, as well as a Stow 'n Vac integrated vacuum. As far as technology goes, both models offer SiriusXM radio, Uconnect 4C NAV with an 8.4-inch display, Google Android Auto, GPS navigation, and integrated voice command with Bluetooth. However, the hybrid model adds many exciting features such as Harman Kardon speakers, a Blu-ray DVD player, dual HDMI ports, and Uconnect Theatre with wireless streaming. Both the Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid models are excellent choices if you are looking for a top-quality minivan. For a slightly higher price, the hybrid model gives you excellent fuel efficiency, plus you will qualify for a federal tax credit for being environmentally friendly. This model also boasts state-of-the-art tech features. The Pacifica, on the other hand, will give you more power and more storage space, while still delivering respectable mileage rates. Beyond the Change: 4 Essential Tire Care Tasks

Tires are where your car meets the road. They are critical for traction, performance, ride, and safety. With all these important functions, it is a good idea to keep your tires in good working order. Although your tires will wear out, there are a number of steps you can take to make them last longer and perform better. Here are four important steps in tire care that are worth considering. Proper Inflation Keeping your tires properly inflated is an important tire care task. Having too much or too little air in your tires will cause uneven wear patterns.  You'll also see an increase in fuel economy with properly inflated tires. Check your tire pressure frequently and compare that pressure to the recommended level, which is usually located on the driver or passenger side door frame. Keeping your tires aired correctly will increase tire life and decrease damage to other parts of your vehicle. more Tire Rotation Each vehicle is different and you should check your owner's manual for the exact interval, but tires should be rotated about every 5,000 miles. Front and rear and left and right tires wear differently depending on driving characteristics and the condition of your vehicle. By rotating your tires from back to front and side to side, you'll even out the wear on all four tires. Be careful if you rotate your tires yourself, as some tires are uni-directional, meaning they can only go on either the right or left side of the vehicle. Tire Balancing It is not very often that a tire and wheel combination is perfectly balanced after installation. This is where tire balancing comes in handy. Using a balancer, the tire and wheel assembly weight is equalized so that it runs smoothly at high speed. Balancing decreases vibration from the wheel and tire combination and can lead to a smoother ride and less wear and tear on the suspension system and tires. Alignment Your vehicle's suspension system is comprised of many parts that all need to work in unison to provide a smooth ride. The act of aligning the suspension takes into account three items: camber, toe, and caster. While you don't necessarily need to know the definition of each of these terms, you should be aware that if any of these three are out of line, it can have negative consequences for your tires. Improper alignment can result in tire feathering, wear to the inside or outside of the tread, and heel/toe wear. If your tires are showing signs of wear it is worth having your vehicle professionally aligned. You'll save your tires and get a safer and more responsive driving experience. We all know that buying new tires is an expensive proposition, something that none of us looks forward to. With proper inflation and regular rotation, balancing, and alignment it is possible to get a lot of miles out of your tires. Just know that spending a little money now on tire care will pay back in fewer trips to the tire store down the road. Image via Dodge.com

Road-Trip Ready Dodge Models

Depending on who you ask, Dodge is famous either for the muscle cars it offers to drivers who love a thrill or the SUVs the company offers families that want something big and reliable. The Charger and the Challenger are both decent picks for a road trip, but if you want enough room for a big family and all the luggage that comes with them, you should choose one of the following models. Dodge Journey The Dodge Journey is the smaller of Dodge's two crossovers. It's a midsize model, despite being relatively small it has enough room to fit in three rows of seats. The cargo area behind that third row has enough room for around 11 cubic feet, but if you need more space you can fold down the back rows to get up to 67.6 cubic feet. You can also make use of in-floor storage in the back, plus the second row has a storage space with a plastic lining you can use as a cooler. Dodge Durango The Durango is on the large side of the midsize SUV class, and while the vehicle comes standard with two rows you can add a third on the higher trim levels. The Durango also has one of the biggest cargo areas for its class, with enough room to fit 84.5 cubic feet with the rear seats down. This vehicle can also come with some very luxurious highlights, including contrast stitching on leather seats and a second-row console with vents, USB ports, and a 115-volt power outlet. The Durango also comes with a range of engine options. The standard V-6 has a surprising amount of power in it, and it combines the crossover's best fuel efficiency numbers with a towing max of 6,200 pounds. The other two options are V-8s, and while the larger V-8 comes exclusively on the performance-based SRT trim, it can also tow up to 8,700 pounds. And no matter which engine you choose, you'll get an advanced eight-speed automatic transmission that accelerates more smoothly and more efficiently. Dodge Grand Caravan When Chrysler Group came out with the Pacifica to replace the old Town and Country minivan, they thought they would discontinue the Grand Caravan since it shares the same design and most of the same parts. However, the grandmother of minivans is still popular enough that you can still buy them new today. The design is an older one, but if you want a low-cost minivan with tons of storage space, the convenience of Stow n Go seats, and third-row seats that can fold toward the back to face the rear, you still have time to buy. As a brand, Dodge makes both fast cars ready for the track or the drag strip and crossovers ready for the open road and long family vacations. The Journey offers a reasonable size at a reasonable price, the Durango has luxury, style, and the best feature list you could ask for, and the Grand Caravan has room to spare for a real bargain. What to Do When Your Check Engine Light Comes On

The check engine light can be a terrifying thing. You are driving along and all the sudden there it is, the glowing yellow light with a mysterious meaning. Some problems are easy to fix, while others will require a trip to a professional dealership. Here are four things that your check engine light might be trying to tell you and what you should do about them. Loose or Faulty Gas Cap Many modern vehicles have a sensor at the gas cap that generates a code if the cap is broken or has not been installed correctly. If the check engine light comes on soon after you have filled up the tank, check to make sure that there aren't any cracks in the cap and then replace the cap, being careful to get it screwed in tightly. Though not critical to your car's function, a loose or faulty gas cap can lead to lower gas mileage and higher vehicle emissions. more Overheating or Oil Pressure When the check engine light comes on, you should immediately look at all the other gauges and readings on your dashboard. Look specifically for low oil pressure or a high reading on the engine coolant temperature gauge. These issues are very serious and require that you stop driving immediately and get your car to a professional mechanic. Many vehicles have check engine light that differentiates between critical and non-critical error codes. A serious issue will be communicated by a flashing check engine light. With a solid check engine light, you'll probably have time to drive the vehicle to the mechanic. Oxygen Sensor Your vehicle controls the flow of fuel and air to your engine using a series of oxygen sensors that assure that the system is working optimally. When one of these sensors goes out, your vehicle lacks the information to run efficiently. In most cases, a faulty oxygen sensor will throw a code that triggers the check engine light. This error is not immediately critical but should be dealt with by a professional dealership so that your car runs at peak performance. Spark Plugs and Wires Spark plugs seal the combustion chamber on your engine and provide the gap for the spark to jump across to initiate combustion. Old and dirty plugs can misfire causing hesitations in acceleration and the check engine light to come on. In older vehicles spark plugs should be changed every 25,000 to 30,000 miles. With newer cars, that mileage can go up to 100,000. In either case, if your check engine light comes on, it is worth having a mechanic evaluate the spark plugs. Check engine lights can be daunting, but the good news is that most of the time the light is associated with a code. These codes are readable by a professional dealership mechanic. If your check engine light comes on, but your vehicle isn't showing any other signs of malfunction, it is best to get to a mechanic promptly to have the code read and the problem repaired. If the light is flashing or your vehicle is not acting normal, pull over immediately and arrange to have your vehicle brought to a certified technician like those at Ourisman Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep of Alexandria for service. Have You Heard about the Electric Jeep Wrangler?

When you think of electric vehicles, you probably think of either little compact hatchbacks that are really only good for city driving or expensive luxury cars full of high-tech gadgets that still aren't any good at cross-country trips. But would you believe that Jeep is coming out with an electric Wrangler? The planned vehicle will be a plug-in hybrid rather than a full EV, but that still means you could tackle some serious trails in a Wrangler without a single piston firing. The New Wrangler It's a good time to add more options to the Wrangler because Jeep has only recently come out with the JL, the latest Wrangler generation. It had been a while since the last major redesign, and so the JL brings with it important features like driver assistance, a full-color display in the instrument cluster, and advanced capabilities like a winch-ready bumper and a heavy-duty electrical group ready for power-hungry more accessories. It only makes sense that a new plug-in hybrid powertrain would be on that big list of changes. The Announcement During the Los Angeles Auto Show, Jeep's CEO announced that the Wrangler will have a plug-in hybrid option starting in the year 2020. This means the Wrangler will have the kind of range you get from a hybrid but also the ability to shut the engine off completely and let the quiet electric motor run the wheels for a few dozen miles. This will be a perfect fit for drivers who want a Wrangler with enough endurance to tow their camper trailer to a remote park and who also want to hear the nature around them on a rough trail. The Electric Movement The Jeep Wrangler isn't the only Chrysler Group model to get a hybrid design. Not so long ago, the Chrysler Pacifica minivan got a plug-in hybrid version of its own. The upscale Pacifica offers several features you won't find among its competition, and at this point that includes the only plug-in hybrid minivan out there. It's not as efficient as other plug-in hybrids thanks to its size, but the Pacifica Hybrid is far more efficient than its competition with 84 combined MPGe and an estimated 566-mile range. The Future-Proofing The 2020 plug-in hybrid is just one of the changes coming to the new JL Wrangler. The older model had been infamous for being something of a gas guzzler, and so Jeep has put a priority on making sure the new model wouldn't turn away conscientious customers. For one thing, the new Wrangler's base engine is more efficient than the old model was, and you can get even better efficiency from a turbo I-4 engine that uses electrical assistance to get 25 highway mpg. It will also get a diesel option for even better fuel efficiency. The plug-in hybrid Wrangler will be a big step toward creating a rugged off-road vehicle with good fuel efficiency. Plug-in hybrids are normally made for cities and highways, so it will be interesting to see just what a hybrid Wrangler can offer. Image via Jeep.com

How Jeep Improved the Wrangler's Interior for 2018

In 2018, the Jeep Wrangler saw its first redesign in more than 10 years. There is a bit of an overlap for the 2018 model year, as the old Wrangler was still in production until April 2018. The newly redesigned Wrangler is available in both two- and four-door models and with a variety of trim levels. In addition to a new exterior design, the interior received a number of upgrades and improvements as well. High-end materials, well-organized controls, and upgraded infotainment options are just some of the additions you'll see on the 2018 Jeep Wrangler. More Luxurious Interior The new Jeep Wrangler features upgraded materials and a variety of luxurious upgrades, including heated front seats and steering wheel. The leather-wrapped steering wheel also has controls for convenient access to phone, audio, voice, and more. Dual-Zone Automatic Temperature Control keeps both the driver and front passenger comfortable at their own desired temperatures. more If you use your Jeep in a cold-weather climate, the addition of heated mirrors is a welcome upgrade. They can help melt frost or ice, which allows for safe driving whether you're on a snowy adventure or just a frost-filled morning commute. Better Connectivity The fourth-generation Uconnect system offers better connectivity and a variety of cool enhancements for 2018. It includes a pinch-to-zoom display, faster startup time, improved responsiveness on the touchscreen, enhanced processing power, and better screen brightness and resolution. The standard Uconnect system features a 5-inch screen but available upgrades include a 7-inch or 8.4-inch screen. The standard model features Siri, Bluetooth Streaming Audio, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and more. The optional 8.4-inch screen also includes navigation with turn-by-turn directions, Android Audio and Apple CarPlay support, SiriusXM Traffic, SiriusXM Travel Link, and more. Ready for Adventure Although there are a lot of luxurious upgrades for 2018, the Jeep Wrangler is still ideal for rugged outdoor adventures. Wrangler's buttons, knobs, and toggles have undergone testing to ensure maximum function. Rubber surrounding the touchscreen, switches, and start/stop button has been expertly designed to be both durable and ergonomic. Climbing in and out is easier with grab handles built into the A-pillar and B-pillar. These also offer extra support when off-roading. For 2018, the wash-out interior includes all-new, one-way drain valves on the floor that allow water out. Once you remove the interior carpet, you can use a hose to wash out the interior. Modern Technology The 2018 Wrangler JL can be started with a quick push of the button, which is waterproof. It was even tested in a mist chamber for a 24-hour soak test. You'll find dual USB ports in the console, there is an extra port tucked away in the center armrest, and additional USB ports are available for passengers in the backseat. There is also a 115-volt power outlet so you can power up your electronics while on the road. When you're ready to see the all-new 2018 Jeep Wrangler in person, visit our showroom at Ourisman Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of Alexandria. Why 2018 is a Great Time to Get a Charger SRT

The 2018 Charger SRT's sporty elements are perfect complements to its sophisticated curves, finely crafted details, and plenty of modern muses without going overboard. Now that we've got you interested, let's move our focus to the SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat from the SRT lineup for 2018. Plenty of Sporty Appeal The SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat know how to catch your eye on the road. They both feature 20-inch gloss-black performance wheels and Pirelli all-season performance tires. However, you can upgrade to 20-inch Brass Monkey SRT forged wheels and P Zero summer tires if you'd like. Other stylish accents include a sleek black grille, exclusive SRT trim badging, and an optional power sunroof. Performance Like Never Before These models are anything but lacking when it comes to speed and acceleration. The Charger SRT 392 packs a HEMI V-8 engine under the hood that's capable of producing 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet of torque. The SRT Hellcat opts for an exclusive 6.2-liter Supercharged HEMI V-8 that grounds out an astounding 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. A TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission and engine cooler round out this impressive list of hardware. Want optimal stopping power on the road? You'll get it with a set of Brembo six-piston, high-performance front brakes, a hydraulic assist brake booster, and red brake calipers. Three-mode adaptive damping is also included, along with a Bilstein high-performance suspension with the SRT 392 and three-mode competitive suspension with the SRT Hellcat. Both set the stage for excellent handling and stability. An Interior That Embodies Luxury The leather trim inside the SRT 392 and Hellcat feels smooth to the touch, while the optional red seat belts add even more style to your package. But what makes the SRT a cozy vehicle? For one, it seats up to five passengers and accommodates more than 55 inches of hip and shoulder room. Second, you get standard front heated/ventilated seats with lumbar support and dual-zone climate control with air filtration. Third, a variety of multimedia systems are included to turn any road trip into a success. Charge up your devices with 12-volt power outlets, enjoy hands-free calling via Bluetooth, and easily access your home with a universal garage door opener. Other cool features include a Uconnect 8.4-inch infotainment system with smartphone integration and GPS navigation and an optional 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with subwoofer and amplifier for clear, quality sound. Safety to Keep Your Mind at Ease The SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat may be flashy, but they're also as well-built and reliable as any family vehicle on the market. For example, standard safety features include advanced SRT multi-stage airbags for front-passenger protection, three-point safety belts, and up to 60 months/60,000 miles of roadside assistance. Add the Technology Group package to your SRT for extras such as lane departure alert, adaptive cruise control with stop, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. If you're currently searching for an ultra-sporty and powerful ride, the Dodge Charger SRT lineup has plenty of exciting things in store for 2018.
