There are plenty of wonderful places to live in this country, but if you ask us, we like it best here in Alexandria, VA. Other towns are great, but there’s nothing that fills us with joy quite like the feeling of being here in our hometown does. So what is it about this place that we love so much? There’s almost too much to fit in one list, but we tried to narrow it down to the top five reasons.
1. Food and Culture
One thing that we sure like to do here in Alexandria is eat, and we’re lucky enough to enjoy some of the best cooking anywhere right here in our town. From world-class sushi and other Japanese cuisine at Hinata to perhaps the best steak you’ll ever have at The Warehouse, foodies will have options galore when choosing a meal in our town. The service and atmosphere you’ll get at these places exemplifies what we love about our town.
2. See the Mighty Potomac River
What better way could there be to unwind than hitting the scenic waterfront in our town’s historic Old District. You’ll see the beautiful river that has made our area so famous for the wonderful landscapes around. The river is great for hiking, fishing, or all sorts of other activities like taking your boat out on the water, if you’re feeling adventurous.
3. Bring your Dog
From the special pet cruises on the river to the dog hotels we have right here in our town, it’s hard to find a more dog-friendly city than ours. There’s plenty of pet-friendly housing to be found, letting you experience everything our town has to offer with your furry friend at your side. There are over 116 parks in our area for you and your four-legged companion to get out to and explore, too.
4. Step into History
You’ll get a sense for the vibrant heritage in our town when you visit the historic Old Town section of our city. There are plenty of historic sites for you to explore in our area, from George Washington’s childhood home of Mount Vernon to Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, where you’ll see the same place the country’s founding fathers discussed some of the most significant events in our nation’s early history.
5. Art and Music
One truly unique thing you’ll see in our town is the Torpedo Art Factory. This building was once a wartime torpedo factory that has since been repurposed as an art gallery, where locals can go to appreciate some fine culture. Music fans will have plenty to see here too, enjoying both the vibrant current scene and seeing where notable musician Dave Grohl of Nirvana and Foo Fighters fame grew up.
